Glossary
Below you will find a glossary that may help you to understand important terms which are used in the timber industry. Most of the terms have been taken from norms and regulations that are mandatory in Germany.
Today, the DIN 1052:2004-08, which regulates the structural design, calculation and construction of timber buildings, is the most important norm in Germany. But in the near future, the Eurocode 5 (DIN EN 1995), which is currently in preparation, will set up norms and regulations for the calculation and construction of timber buildings. With regard to the calculation and construction of timber buildings, this European norm will arrange for a European standard, which is based on the respective national norms and regulations, and after a transition period, the Eurocode 5 will be the new standard. We shall keep you informed about any changes and innovations in this regard, so that you will always find an up-to-date version of this glossary.
